Bridesmaid Duties

The duties of bridesmaids and groomsmen are not to be taken too lightly. After all, they are like the supporting cast for the maid of honor and best man.

The duties of a bridesmaid are just as comprehensive as that of a maid of honor. The bridesmaid should do everything possible to help the bride during the wedding planning stages. This includes helping her to select her perfect wedding dress, shoes that match, flowers for the wedding day and many other items and services for her big day. Bridesmaids' duties also include helping the maid of honor in fulfilling her duties to the bride. You will need to help the maid of honor plan and host a bridal shower, plan and host a stagette or doe party and help with other things such as writing out invitations, making decorations and planning the wedding day itinerary. The most important of all bridesmaid duties is to be present during the selection of bridesmaid dresses, shoes and flowers. After all, you are going to want to make sure that the selected dress and shoes will not only match the bride and the theme of the wedding, but make the bridesmaids look good too!

Maybe you are a junior bridesmaid in an upcoming wedding. Typically, the junior bridesmaid is between the age of 8 and 16, but may differ depending on her size and maturity. Junior bridesmaid duties and responsibilities are generally next to none, but in some instances, they can be invited to some or all of the pre wedding parties and activities like the shower. The junior bridesmaid may also be asked to help with the planning and preparation of the wedding, such as helping to address the invitations, creating and setting up decorations and other necessary items to be completed before the wedding day.

During the wedding, the junior bridesmaid will usually carry a flower basket and will precede the bride in the processional. This of course can vary depending on your preferences.

Bridesmaid responsibilities are very important in order to ensure that the entire wedding day is problem free. The jobs and responsibilities of the bridesmaids help to ensure that the bride’s wedding day is perfect for her. You are after all, selected by the bride herself to be her main support during the planning stages, wedding day and reception.
