Wishing Wells
Asking for cash contributions rather than gifts is not an uncommon thing among today’s weddings. Some couples will put up a wishing well at their guest table for the wedding reception. Wishing wells are a great way to collect cash gifts and marriage well wishes from the guests that are attending your wedding, and if done tastefully will make them feel good about making a cash contribution rather that giving a gift.
There are many ways that you can personalize a wedding wishing well. A free wishing well can be made from items around your own house. Using a nice sized cardboard box that is wrapped in wedding paper is one way this can be accomplished. Using nice wishing well wording or wedding wishing well poems are a nice way to add a personal touch and thank your guests for their generous gift. Be sure to take into account the number of guests that will be attending your wedding and select a wedding wishing well box that will not be overflowing and messy looking. You also do not want to be known as the couple with the large cardboard wishing well, so be careful about the size and decorations you use.
If you are less than creative and would like to find a wedding wishing wells somewhere else rather than making your own, check out the venue were you are having your wedding reception to see if they could provide a nice basket or wishing well. You can also visit most wedding stores and craft stores to purchase everything from the supplies needed to make your wedding wishing well to a McCoy wishing well cookie jar!
Even if you are a couple that has registered for gifts, it is a good idea to make sure you are prepared with some kind of a wishing well reception idea. Some of the guests are still going to want to make their contribution to you in cash as they have waited until the last minute to decide on a gift for you, or feel that a cash contribution will be more enjoyed by the newlywed couple.
No matter how you decide to set things up, remember to put some kind of wording in your wedding invitations to let your guests know that a cash contribution would be appreciated over a gift. Make sure that the wishing well is personalized and has some kind of wording or a poem on it to let them know how much you appreciate their contributions to the wishing well. Poems are something everyone loves to see. In addition, always be sure to send out thank you cards after the wedding to let them know how much you appreciate what they have given you, regardless of whether it is money or a gift.
You may also wish to have a bridal wishing well at your bridal shower or the bridal shower that you are hosting for a friend. This is a great way to get some money for the bride so that she can spoil herself a little bit in whatever way she sees fit. Just remember the same rules apply as that of a wishing well for a wedding.
